How the Process Works

The process is slightly different depending on whether you're looking for doula care or lactation care.

Doula Care

1. Choose Your Doula

You choose your own doula.

Start by viewing our Participating Provider Directory and finding a provider whose services, availability, location, and approach work for your family.

CuraNatal does not match or assign families to doulas.

2. Connect With Your Doula

Contact the doula directly.

You'll discuss their availability, services, approach to care, and whether you would like to work together.

Once you've chosen your provider, you're ready to begin the insurance process with CuraNatal.

3. Complete the CuraNatal Insurance Intake

Now CuraNatal steps in.

Complete our Doula Insurance Intake and tell us which Participating Provider you've selected.

You'll provide information such as your demographics, insurance information, pregnancy information, and selected provider.

4. CuraNatal Reviews Your Insurance

Our team reviews your information and works to verify the benefits available under your individual insurance plan.

We look beyond simply determining whether your policy is active.

Depending on your plan, we may review:

• Whether doula services are a covered benefit

• Eligibility

• Available visits or units

• Prenatal, birth, and postpartum benefits

• Benefit maximums

• Prior authorization requirements

• Referral or order requirements

• Payer-specific billing requirements

• Other coverage limitations that could affect your services

If additional information or documentation is required, CuraNatal will communicate the next steps.

Once verification is complete, CuraNatal communicates the information we've obtained about your benefits and any applicable requirements.

5. Your Doula Provides Your Care

Once applicable insurance requirements have been addressed, you continue working directly with your chosen doula.

Your doula—not CuraNatal—provides your services and manages your care and scheduling.

Lactation Care

Lactation works a little differently because you can begin by booking your appointment directly.

1. Book Your Lactation Appointment

Choose your lactation appointment based on the type of support, location, and availability you need.

2. Provide Your Insurance Information

During the booking and intake process, you'll provide the information CuraNatal needs to review applicable insurance benefits.

3. CuraNatal Reviews Your Benefits

Our administrative team reviews your insurance information and applicable lactation benefits and requirements.

Depending on your plan, we may review eligibility, covered services, visit limitations, authorization or referral requirements, and other applicable coverage rules.

We'll communicate with you if additional information or action is required.

4. Meet With Your Lactation Consultant

Your lactation consultant provides your clinical lactation care.

Depending on the provider and appointment selected, support may include:

• Prenatal feeding preparation

• Breastfeeding and latch support

• Milk supply concerns

• Pumping

• Flange fitting

• Bottle feeding

• Feeding assessments

• Breast or nipple concerns

• Weaning

• Follow-up lactation care

Your lactation consultant is responsible for your clinical care. CuraNatal supports the administrative and insurance process.

Do not assume services are covered simply because your insurance company appears on our accepted insurance list.

CuraNatal Handles Eligible Insurance Claims

After services are provided and the necessary information is complete, CuraNatal handles the applicable insurance claim process.

That includes submitting eligible claims, following claim status, responding to applicable insurance requests, and reconciling insurance payments.

• Western Health Advantage — reimbursement may be available depending on plan
